Fred Valdez is Professor of Anthropology and Archaeology at The University of Texas at Austin. He has directed the Programme for Belize Archaeological Project for more than 25 field seasons with other field experiences at Colha, Rio Azul, and Tikal. He also currently serves as Director of the Texas Archeological Research Laboratory (TARL). His research interests include the study of material culture such as ceramic and lithic technologies, settlement patterns and small site studies, and the early emergence of social and political complexity, the history of archaeological investigations in Central America, cultural continuity and transition in Latin America and the American Southwest, Mesoamerican prehistory, and occasional seminars on technological aspects of material culture analyses.
