Mallory E. Matsumoto is assistant professor in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research addresses the interface between language, material culture, and religion in pre-colonial and colonial Maya communities of Mesoamerica across archaeology, epigraphy, ethnohistory, and historical anthropology. She is the author of Land, Politics, and Memory in Five Nija’ib’ K’iche’ Títulos: “The Title and Proof of Our Ancestors” (2017, University Press of Colorado) and twenty scholarly chapters and articles. Her work has been supported by the National Science Foundation, Fulbright-IIE, the Council in Library and Information Resources, and Dumbarton Oaks, among other institutions. She earned a PhD in anthropology from Brown University in 2021.
